Spiritual Crisis

“There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind—you are the one who hears it. If you don’t understand this, you will try to figure out which of the many things the voice says is really you.
People go through so many changes in the name of “trying to find myself.” They want to discover which of these voices, which of these aspects of their personality, is who they really are. The answer is simple: none of them.” Michael Singer

We find ourselves amidst a shift on Earth – A renewing of our collective understanding of reality and our human-potential. One which is shaking our world’s institutions to the core.

There is a consciousness shift taking place which is believed to be a dimensional shift in consciousness.

“We are moving from a baseline of third dimensional consciousness into the fourth and up into the higher ranges of the fourth and we’re doing this in a very short amount of time. A rough estimate for me would be, as a window of time, is about a 100 years and we’re right in the middle of it.” Howard Martin, Founder of the Heartmath Institute

However there currently exists many different levels of understanding to this global paradigm shift.

Spiritual Crisis’s are fast becoming common traits for people stepping outside the current limitations of our current and outdated human experience. Many are now embracing the new which awaits us all.

As I explain in the transpersonal page, we have somewhat of an identity crisis occurring on earth, we’re like a species with amnesia and have both lost and forgotten who we truly are.

It is my sincerest belief, backed by many of today’s working transpersonal psychologists that humanity is undergoing what is known as a psychospiritual-transformation. Even the unaware and unconscious amongst us are benefiting greatly from this transformation.

By definition

A Spiritual Crisis or Spiritual Emergency respectively, in short is a loss of one’s identity through a renewed understanding of experience.

This loss of identity usually precedes a revelation of sorts – into either one’s own personal reality or their essence of their true self (or both in some cases.)

These particular revelations, or personal spiritual experiences are also known as Peak Experiences.

Spiritual Crisis is the beginning of a process of revaluating one’s life, priorities and beliefs through the experience of a new, expanded awareness, understanding or mind-expansion related to our truest identities.

Usually through this process, one undertakes drastic changes to their ‘meaning system’ – For example their unique purposes, values, goals, attitudes and beliefs, identity, and focus.

This expanded awareness (which is commonly attained in an instantaneous moment – such as an epiphany or similar) will often inevitably lead to some sort of a psychospiritual transformation in one’s life.

Psychospiritual is a healing approach that works primarily “outside the box” of set procedure. It requires an acceptance of the idea of paradox and mystery, which allows us to see that the truth can be ambiguous, complex, contradictory or unknowable.

In short it means a spiritual-mental transformation of attitudes and an upliftment, or even upgrade in one’s life to higher levels of consciousness and awareness.

Spiritual, in this context here means – Relieving of suffering, through a renewed understanding of the world.

A spiritual crisis may cause significant disruption in psychological, social and occupational functioning also. Anything which challenges our personal experience and daily lives could lead to such a spiritual crisis.

DepressedA spiritual crisis often precedes a form or series of depressions – nothing we seem to do around this time has any meaning, colour or gesture to it.

In summary, a Spiritual Crisis or Emergency is a revaluation of one’s life on many levels of being. Once it has begun there is no real way of undoing these new perceptions, aside from completely ignoring their existence.

As rapid change takes place on earth it is easy to lose balance and centeredness in one’s own being – easily becoming distracted by much of the external world and as a result losing our truest nature.

Distractions and the many levels of hypnotic advertising flashing past our attention spans, attempt to dictate the type of lives we should live and the world which we live in.

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment. Ralph Waldo Emerson

Experiencing a loss of identity through our true self often has profound effects on our lives, though usually only temporarily.

Once we collectively overcome this crisis of identity we give space to accelerate a transformation for all to benefit from.

“After more than fifty years of intensive study these observations suggest that radical psychospiritual transformation of humanity is not only possible, but is already underway. The question is only whether it can be sufficiently fast and extensive to reverse the current self-destructive trend of modern humanity.” Dr Stanislav Grof
